I spent this week checking out the new "video motion" feature in Scratch 2.0 and created a couple of projects to test it's functionality, one where you can see the feedback from your webcam (in the "Sensing" blocks, setting "video transparency" to a numeric value other than 100), the other where the video transparency = 100, so you can't see the webcam feedback (the picture it is capturing). All the while, I was thinking about projects we've created, to keep in mind how you'd work in this new feature. All in all, I think I need to spend some more time using this feature and following the Scratch discussion boards. It isn't hard at all to add video motion to a project (in Sensing, add "turn video ON" to a regular Event, such as when green flag clicked, and drag over a "set video transparency..." block from this same Sensing group. Then, go to Events and drag over the When loudness > 10 control, and click on the drop down to change to "video motion", and change the numeric value in the operator, if needed). But, I wanted more options to use to control how the camera interpreted the motion. Right now, the feature is very "global", meaning, it's hard to selectively move characters -- one motion detected and they all move. Additionally, depending on your web cam, if there's too much motion, it caches, and returns motion in what seems like random intervals, not very synchronous with your actual movement to trigger it. I did find a plug in that does allow you to program motion detection with a lot more specificity. I'll take a look at this plug in and let you know what I find.
