Personal 3D printers are now the new normal in indie design!
Imagine my (pleasant) surprise, when checking out this new eco friendly, portable mini-AC, Geizeer, to find the inventors used a small 3D printer when designing the prototype! Read through the link above to their Indigogo campaign for details, but by their description:
" ...a 3D printer FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) was used. This allows you to have, in a short time, various forms of different sizes, giving us the opportunity to do the efficiency test. From here we have selected and worked on the most functional form, refining the design."
I'm seeing more and more that small 3D printers value to everyday users may be in how you use them in the discovery process of making stuff, rather than as means for "one and done" projects ;)
And in the eco-advocacy realm, turtle advocates are now creating 3D printed GPS embedded turtle eggs and adding to new nests to track which ones are removed so authorities can track poachers!
