App development for all...

I've spent the last couple of months working on figuring out my next 5 year plan for teaching computer programming and 3D design. This year marks the end of my first 5 years (kicked off by the creation of this blog!) and I can't thank Computers4kids, our local coder dojo clubs, hour of code guest teaching, and UVa SEP for the incredible opportunities during this time.
I'm thinking now of breaking into teaching non-traditional tech learners on the other end of the age spectrum, older adults, and teaching "boutique" android app development to let folks develop app solutions customized to their specific lives armed with the knowledge of how to revise their apps as their needs and/or technology evolve. Take a look here at an adult education initiative using MIT App Inventor. So far, my next 5 year plan is to develop classes with our local Parks and Recreation departments (Albemarle, City of Charlottesville, Greene, Madison, Culpeper, Orange, Louisa) to test the waters to gauge interest.
I do strongly believe that the next technology wave will be to democratize technology, meaning, users less as  "consumers" (downloading off the shelf commercial apps) and more as  "builders" (developing custom programs for your specific technology and real life needs).
