Carnegie Mellon just released a new Alice 2.x version, 2.4; check out their promo, and release notes. They've added several new characters and re-arranged where some of the old familiar ones are located. An important change is that now, by default, the he/she builder characters are not visible in the people folder unless you go to "preferences" in the top tool bar and check the he/she builder box so that it becomes visible. According to CMU, in the interest of cultural sensitivity regarding the clothing options of the she-builder character, they decided to opt out that character's display (for techie details: he/she-builder is a 3rd party plug in, so you can control this character option differently than you can for any of the other character objects).
And just a reminder, Alice 2.x and Alice 3.x are entirely 2 different Alice applications! This confusion comes up fairly routinely when I work with learning labs, so be careful to consider your audience when you decide which application you need to install. Alice 2.x is pre-requisite version that has plenty to offer K-12 users and it's a reliable and easy to download package. Alice 3.x is a more advanced version that gives users a look into the actual java code that you can manipulate in external java code editors (i.e. Netbeans) for a more complex programming experience. It's more involved to download and it's been my experience that most workstations cannot run both Alice 2.x and Alice 3.x; I've been unable to get my laptop to run both.
