A big shout out to Monticello High School in Albemarle County for transforming their library into a "tech hub" complete with media studio, hacker space, a student run help desk ("genius bar", ala itunes!) and a 3D printer. Organizers note: "The library spaces now have sort of a pull effect, and sort of like Jefferson's academical village, we have this space, it's ready for (kids) to produce and not only consume information and it's just a draw. The demand is there." You bet; a nice model to show that you can turn traditional school spaces into tech friendly ones to make learning computer science just part of the normal school day. The more we do that, the more kids gravitate to computer science and it becomes just "what you do!" and before you know it, you've started a groundswell. Check out the full story with video here.
