A couple of 3D printing odds and ends ...
It looks like the Pinshape website is back up and running, so check it out to see what you think of it compared to Thingiverse!
Our local Charlottesville Northside library has a Makerbot 3D printer that is still awaiting some process planning before staff allow public access, but in the meantime, I decided to do a little research and found a nice article about the history of Makerbot's recent acquisition by Stratasys in Forbes. Cool to think that not too far in the future, you might be able to go to your local UPS or Kinko's to 3D print just like you can do for 2D jobs. And some very interesting looking free 3D printing project plans from Makerbot that look very teaching friendly for a 5 week session, so I'll be digging into these ideas this summer to plan for 2016 SEP.
And, reading Amazon consumer reviews about their Makerbot purchases finds lots of practical/technical advice, including rave reviews of Tinkercad!
