A nice wrap up from a University of Rochester assistant CS professor about what it was like to work with kids during the code.org Hour of Code initiative. I especially liked observations about the pros and cons of pair programming strategies to spur creative and cooperative learning. I've seen both when I use this approach, where at best, it makes quality controlling (QC'ing) work fun and encourages classroom crowd-sourcing to solve programming questions. At worst, peer programming can lead to a "leader-follower" dynamic, where if you pair kids with clashing learning styles, might not give some kids in a pair the time and space to create at a pace or style they need. And I loved the observation that kids learning code approach it with "utter fearlessness"!
