Welcome to my new Animate blog, a way you can reach me and we can share questions and animation best practice. I'll focus on resources to support project based learning using Alice 2.3, Scratch, and Kodu. I've also created a "Dropbox" account (www.dropbox.com), so that when I come up with new templates, or your kids want me to take a look/troubleshoot issues with their project, we can easily do this. The credentials I set up:
username: animate.makeica@yahoo.com
password: coderdojo
You'll need to download "Dropbox" to actually see the contents of this shareware.
I'm still playing with this strategy, so please let me know if you run into any problems.
My plan is also to post video mini-tutorials that I'll upload using Youtube; I'm still working on setting this up, so stay tuned!
So, at my first field trip to Ms.White's dojo lab, I got several questions about the ability to add characters ("objects") into Alice. While it is true you cannot add fully functional 3D characters without external design software, I found this tip from the Alice Facebook community about adding 2D pictures:

You can drag and drop pictures from your desktop or the web directly into the Alice project you've created. To do this, activate the view where you have your picture, highlight it, and drag it down to the Alice icon on your task bar. This makes the Alice viewer your active window, so you can now drag and drop your picture onto your Alice project. The name of the picture will show in the tree under "World" on the far left and now, you can animate it!
